Bob Wills and the Town of Turkey

Bob Wills, the king of Western Swing music, grew up in Hall County near the town of Turkey, which still holds an annual tribute event in his honor.

Bob Wills grew up in Hall County near the town of Turkey, in the southeastern Texas Panhandle. He went on to lead the Texas Playboys and help create Western Swing, a style that blends country, jazz, and big band sounds. Turkey holds an annual Bob Wills Day celebration each April to honor his legacy.

Turkey is a small community in western Hall County. If you are passing through the area on U.S. Highway 83, it is worth a stop to see the Bob Wills Museum and the historical markers in town. The Handbook of Texas, published by the Texas State Historical Association, documents Wills's connection to the county.
