Homestead Exemption

How to File a Homestead Exemption in Hall County

If you own and live in your Hall County home, a homestead exemption can lower your taxable property value.

A homestead exemption reduces the amount of your home's value that gets taxed. Texas requires school districts to exempt $140,000 of a home's appraised value. Some local taxing units offer additional exemptions on top of that. Seniors and people with disabilities may qualify for extra reductions.

To get the exemption, file Form 50-114 with the Hall County Appraisal District. The appraisal district is at 112 S. 5th St. in Memphis, TX 79245. General deadlines for filing are set by state law — check with the appraisal district for the current cutoff date, since missing it can delay your savings by a full year. You only need to file once as long as you stay in the same home.
