Free Public Fishing Access on the Brazos River
Texas Parks and Wildlife leases two public access points on the Brazos River in Milam County near Cameron for fishing and paddling.
The Brazos River forms the northeastern boundary of Milam County. TPWD's River Access and Conservation Area (RACA) program leases two spots on the river near Cameron. Area 1 is at 10794 FM 979; Area 2 is about five miles downstream by river. You can wade fish, canoe, or kayak between the two areas. Target species include largemouth, spotted, and white bass, plus channel catfish and sunfish.
Access is allowed from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. You must have a current Texas freshwater or combo fishing license. Before you go, call the landowner at 979-219-4808 to get the gate code and confirm conditions. Pack out everything you bring in. Motorized boats are not permitted at these access points.
