Caddo Lake WMA: Public Hunting in the Cypress Swamp

The Caddo Lake Wildlife Management Area covers 8,124 acres across Harrison and Marion counties. It is open to licensed hunters who have the right permits.

The WMA has bald cypress swamps, bottomland hardwoods, and mixed pine-hardwood forests. Hunters can go after white-tailed deer, feral hog, waterfowl, dove, squirrel, rabbit, coyote, raccoon, and more. You need a valid Texas hunting license. You also need an Annual Public Hunting Permit or the right special permit. Hunters 16 and younger need a license too. They must be supervised by a licensed, permitted adult who is 18 or older.

Airboats, ATVs, and off-road vehicles are not allowed. There are no restrooms, so bring what you need. The WMA was set up in 1992. It is recognized under the Ramsar Convention as a wetland of international importance for waterfowl. Seasons and permit rules can change, so check the TPWD WMA page for current information.
