Comal County Has Grown Rapidly Since the 1990s
Comal County has gone from a small rural county to one of the fastest-growing counties in Texas over the past few decades.
In 1950, Comal County had about 16,000 residents. By 2014, that number had grown to over 120,000. Much of that growth came from people moving out from San Antonio and Austin. As those cities spread, development pushed into the Hill Country and into Comal County.
This fast growth has driven up property values. It has also put pressure on roads and local services. New city and county rules have followed. If you are moving here, expect ongoing construction and changing land use patterns — especially around New Braunfels and Canyon Lake.
