A Groundwater District Regulates Wells in Comal County
If you drill a water well in Comal County, the Comal Trinity Groundwater Conservation District has rules you must follow.
Comal County sits over the Trinity Aquifer. That is the underground rock layer that holds water for many rural wells here. The Comal Trinity Groundwater Conservation District is the local agency that oversees well drilling and pumping from that aquifer. Its rules took effect in 2019.
Small wells for a home or livestock are usually exempt from metering. That means wells pumping less than 25,000 gallons per day do not need a meter. Larger wells that go over that limit need meters and must pay fees. If you plan to drill a well, call the district first at 830-885-2130 or visit their website. Rules can change, so check before you start.
