Cooper Lake State Park: Camping and Fishing Near Cooper

Cooper Lake State Park sits on Jim Chapman Lake right in Delta County and offers camping, fishing, hiking, and cabins about 90 minutes from Dallas.

The park has two units. The Doctors Creek Unit (95 Park Road 8154, Cooper) is the closer one to the county seat. The South Sulphur Unit is across the county line in Hopkins County. Both units have boat ramps, fishing piers, and campgrounds. The South Sulphur Unit also has 14 cabins with full kitchens. There is a 10.5-mile equestrian trail.

The lake — Jim Chapman Lake, formerly called Cooper Reservoir — covers about 19,300 acres. Blue catfish, hybrid striped bass, and crappie are the main draws. Day-use admission is $5 for adults; children 12 and under are free. The park fills up on spring and summer weekends, so reservations are smart. Check the TPWD page for current rates and availability before you go.
