Wildlife Management Area
Cooper WMA: Public Hunting and Hiking on 14,000 Acres
Cooper WMA is a 14,480-acre wildlife management area in Delta and Hopkins counties, open year-round for hunting, fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing.
The area is managed by TPWD under a license agreement with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It sits next to Jim Chapman Lake and the Cooper Dam. You can hunt, fish, hike, bike, and watch wildlife here. The only restroom is at the Johns Creek Boat Ramp.
Bring your own drinking water — none is available on site. Some roads flood and become impassable after heavy rain. A Texas hunting or fishing license is required for those activities, and some hunts may also require a TPWD public hunting permit. Check the TPWD WMA page for current rules and any seasonal closures before visiting.
