Homestead Exemption
Homestead Exemption: Lower Your Tax Bill in Delta County
If the home you own is your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption that reduces how much of your home's value is taxed.
Texas requires every school district to give a $140,000 homestead exemption. That means the school portion of your tax bill is based on $140,000 less than your appraised value. Other local taxing units — like the county — may offer their own additional exemptions on top of that.
To get the exemption, you file an application with the Delta County Appraisal District. The general filing deadline is before May 1 of the tax year, but late filings are sometimes allowed. You only need to apply once — it carries forward each year as long as you still own and live in the home. Use Texas Comptroller Form 50-114. Seniors and disabled homeowners may qualify for extra benefits.
