County Seat
Corpus Christi is the county seat and largest city in Nueces County
Corpus Christi has served as the Nueces County seat since the county was organized in 1846 and is home to the Port of Corpus Christi, one of the largest ports in Texas.
Corpus Christi sits on the western shore of Corpus Christi Bay, about 210 miles southwest of Houston. The city was incorporated in 1846. By 2019, the county had grown to about 362,000 residents. A large share of residents identify as Hispanic, reflecting the county's deep Tejano roots.
The Port of Corpus Christi opened in 1926 and is a major hub for oil, petrochemical products, and grain. The port plays a large role in the county's economy and is one of the busiest ports on the Gulf Coast.
