Davis Mountains State Park offers hiking, camping, and stargazing
Davis Mountains State Park sits at high elevation in Fort Davis and offers outdoor activities year-round, including a historic lodge and some of the darkest night skies in Texas.
The park sits between 5,000 and 6,000 feet in the Davis Mountains. You can hike, mountain bike, ride horses, camp, and stargaze. The historic Indian Lodge inside the park is a 39-room motel built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. A five-mile scenic drive offers mountain views.
The park fills up quickly, especially on weekends. Texas Parks and Wildlife recommends reservations for both camping and day use. A small day-use fee applies for adults; children 12 and under are free. TPWD also allows drawn hunts in the Limpia Canyon Primitive Area, a separate section north of Highway 118. Check the TPWD website for current fees, availability, and reservation details.
