Deer hunting rules for Gregg County

Gregg County falls in the North Zone for white-tailed deer, with specific antler restrictions and bag limits set by Texas Parks and Wildlife.

For the 2025-26 season, hunters in Gregg County may take four deer total — no more than two bucks and no more than two antlerless — across all seasons combined. Antler restrictions apply: only one of your two legal bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or greater. The other legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler. These rules are designed to let younger bucks mature.

Archery season runs late September through October. The general season opens November 1 and runs into early January. Youth-only and muzzleloader seasons extend the opportunity into mid-January. Seasons and bag limits can change annually — always check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for the current year's rules before you go. A valid Texas hunting license is required.
