Property Tax Basics

Who values your property for taxes in Gregg County

The Gregg County Appraisal District (GCAD) sets the value of every taxable property in the county each year.

Two offices handle your property taxes — and they are different offices. The Gregg County Appraisal District (GCAD) figures out what your property is worth. A separate office — the Tax Assessor-Collector — sends the bills and collects the money. If you think your value is too high, you fight that at GCAD, not at the tax office.

GCAD is at 4367 W. Loop 281 in Longview. Their phone is 903-238-8823 and their website is gcad.org. The Tax Assessor-Collector is at 101 E. Methvin St., Suite 110, Longview, and can be reached at 903-237-2552. Check the Texas Comptroller's county directory for the full list of taxing units — Gregg County has several school districts, multiple cities, and three Emergency Services Districts (ESDs) that all set their own rates.
