Hunting Regulations
Deer hunting rules in Montague County have a specific antler restriction
Montague County sits in the North Zone with a four-deer bag limit, but only one buck can have a wide spread.
Montague County is in the Texas deer North Zone. You can take up to four deer per season — a maximum of two bucks and two antlerless. There is an antler restriction: only one of your two bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or more. The other buck must have at least one unbranched antler.
The general season typically runs from early November through early January, with separate archery and youth seasons. Seasons and bag limits can change each year. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt. If you plan to hunt on LBJ National Grasslands land in the county, antlerless deer are only allowed during archery season, youth-only seasons, and the Thanksgiving Day weekend period (Thanksgiving Day through the following Sunday).
