LBJ National Grasslands offers public hunting and camping in Montague County

The Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands stretches into Montague County and is open to hunting, camping, and hiking.

The LBJ National Grasslands is federal public land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. It spans parts of Montague and Wise counties. You can hunt, camp, hike, fish, and ride horses here. A valid Texas hunting or fishing license is required.

The Valley View Group Use area is one developed spot on the LBJ Grasslands, located in the Montague and Wise county area of the grasslands. It has campsites available for a fee on a first-come, first-served basis. The managing office is in Decatur (Wise County). Call or check the Forest Service website before your trip — rules about campfires and access can change, especially during dry weather.
