Deer hunting rules for Garza County

Garza County is in the North Zone for white-tailed deer and also has a mule deer season, so the rules are different depending on which deer you are hunting.

For white-tailed deer, the 2025–2026 limit is 5 deer total per season, with no more than 1 buck. The general season runs from November 1 through early January. There are also archery and youth-only seasons. Mule deer also live in parts of the county. The mule deer limit is 1 buck, with a shorter general season in late November and early December.

Pronghorn antelope are present and require a special permit. Quail season runs November through late February with an Upland Game Bird Endorsement required. Seasons and bag limits can change each year. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual or the county-specific page before you go out. You can also contact the local TPWD wildlife biologist at (432) 244-7574 with questions.
