Deer Hunting in Hood County Has Antler Restrictions

Hood County hunters can take up to 4 deer per season, but specific antler-spread rules apply to bucks — check the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.

In Hood County, the white-tailed deer bag limit is 4 deer total per season — no more than 2 bucks and no more than 2 antlerless. Only one of those bucks may have an inside antler spread of 13 inches or greater. A legal buck must have at least one unbranched antler or an inside spread of 13 inches or more.

Turkey season is also open in Hood County. The statewide annual bag limit is 4 turkeys, but only one of those four may come from the East Zone — Hood County is in the North Zone, so this limit mainly matters if you also hunt in East Texas the same season. Spring season targets gobblers or bearded hens only. Seasons and specific dates change year to year, so always check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for the current year. Mandatory harvest reporting is required — you must report deer and turkey harvests using the TPWD app or online.
