Deer Hunting in Swisher County: Two Species, Different Rules

Swisher County hunters can pursue both white-tailed deer and mule deer, but mule deer carry Panhandle-specific antler restrictions.

White-tailed deer season in Swisher County generally runs from late September through mid-January, with archery, general, and youth seasons. The combined bag limit is three deer, with no more than one buck. Check the current Texas Outdoor Annual for exact dates, which shift slightly year to year.

Mule deer are also present and fall under the Panhandle zone rules. Bucks must have an outside antler spread of at least 20 inches to be legal. The general mule deer season runs only a couple of weeks in late November and early December. A valid Texas hunting license is required for all hunters regardless of age. Verify current season dates and limits at the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.
