Who Handles Your Property Tax in Swisher County

Two offices handle property tax in Swisher County: one sets your home's value, and a separate one collects what you owe.

The Swisher County Appraisal District sets the taxable value of your property. It is separate from the tax office that sends your bill. The appraisal district is at 130 N. Armstrong Ave. in Tulia. If you think your home is valued too high, you can protest there. Check with the appraisal district for current deadlines.

The Tax Assessor-Collector is at 119 S. Maxwell Ave., Room 104, Tulia. That office collects taxes for the county, three school districts (Happy, Tulia, Kress), three cities, and three special districts. If you own a home as your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that lowers your taxable value. State law requires school districts to give a set exemption on your primary home. Visit the appraisal district or check the Texas Comptroller page to see current exemption amounts and how to apply.
