Deer and turkey hunting rules for Upton County

Upton County follows TPWD North Zone deer rules, with a bag limit of five deer per season — but most land here is private, so access requires permission from landowners.

Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD) sets seasons and bag limits for Upton County. Under current North Zone rules, hunters may take up to 5 deer per season total, with no more than 2 bucks. Archery season runs in late September and October. General season opens in early November. Turkey bag limits are set at 4 birds total across all seasons. Seasons and rules can change each year, so check TPWD's Outdoor Annual before you hunt.

Upton County is almost entirely private ranch land. There is no Texas state park or major public hunting area in the county. You need landowner permission or a lease to hunt here. A Texas hunting license is required for all hunters regardless of age. Buy licenses at tpwd.texas.gov or at any licensed retailer.
