Homestead Exemption

Homestead exemption can lower your property tax bill

If your home in Upton County is your primary residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption that reduces the taxable value of your property.

Texas law lets homeowners reduce how much of their home's value gets taxed. You apply through the Upton County Appraisal District. You must live in the home as your main residence. You will need to provide a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID. Under Texas law, the address on that ID must match the property address for which you are claiming the exemption.

The exemption can reduce taxes for the county, the school districts, and other local taxing units. There are also extra exemptions for people age 65 and older or those with disabilities. Deadlines and amounts can change, so always check the appraisal district's website or call 432-652-3221 for current rules before you apply.
