Deer Hunting: South Zone Rules Apply Here

Deer hunting in Jim Hogg County follows Texas South Zone rules set by Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD). For the 2025-2026 season, archery opens in late September. The general season runs November 1 through January 18. A special late season for antlerless deer and unbranched bucks runs into early February. Always confirm current dates on the TPWD Outdoor Annual before you hunt.

The bag limit is five deer, no more than three of which may be bucks. Other game in the county includes white-winged dove, quail, turkey, and javelina. Almost all land in Jim Hogg County is private, so you need landowner permission or a lease to hunt. TPWD lists a game warden for the county if you need to report a violation or ask a regulation question.
