Veteran Exemption
Veterans with Disabilities Get a Property Tax Break
Texas gives disabled veterans a property tax exemption based on their VA disability rating.
Texas gives disabled veterans a break on property taxes. The amount of the break goes up as the veteran's disability rating from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs goes up. A 100 percent rating may mean a full exemption on a primary home. The surviving spouses of certain disabled veterans may also qualify for the exemption.
To apply, contact the Dallas Central Appraisal District (DCAD). DCAD is the office that sets property values in Dallas County. You can reach them at dcad.org or 214-631-0910. The exact amounts can change when state law changes, so confirm current figures with DCAD when you apply.
