Emissions Inspection
Tarrant County Requires an Emissions Test for Most Vehicles
Most gasoline-powered vehicles registered in Tarrant County must pass an emissions test before registration can be renewed.
Tarrant County is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth air quality area. Because of that, non-commercial vehicles must pass an emissions test each year. The test applies to vehicles between 2 and 24 years old. It checks your tailpipe output and the on-board diagnostic system in your car.
You do not get a separate sticker for the inspection. The one sticker on your windshield shows that you passed both inspection and registration. Find a state-certified inspection station through the Texas DPS website. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) runs the program for the whole state. Check tceq.texas.gov for more details.
