Who Appraises Your Home for Taxes in El Paso County

The El Paso Central Appraisal District sets the value on your property, and that value drives what you owe in property taxes.

The El Paso Central Appraisal District (EPCAD) appraises every property in El Paso County each year. Appraisal means they estimate what your property is worth. That estimate is used to calculate your tax bill — different taxing units (the city, county, school district, and others) each set their own rates on top of it.

EPCAD does not collect taxes — it only sets values. If you think your appraisal is too high, you can protest it. The protest deadline is typically May 15 or 30 days after your notice arrives, whichever comes later. Check the EPCAD website for the current deadline and the online protest portal.
