Flood Risk
Check FEMA flood maps before buying near the Trinity River
The Trinity River runs along Navarro County's northeastern edge, and low-lying land near rivers and creeks can carry significant flood risk.
FEMA's Flood Map Service Center lets you look up any address in the U.S. to see whether it falls in a high-risk flood zone. Properties in a Special Flood Hazard Area (Zone AE or Zone A) that have a federally backed mortgage are required to carry flood insurance. Even properties outside the mapped zone can flood.
The Trinity River and its tributaries cross parts of Navarro County. If you are buying property near any creek or river, look up the FEMA flood map before you close. Flood insurance is separate from homeowners insurance and must be purchased on its own.
