First Monday Trade Days: a long-running Canton tradition

Canton's First Monday Trade Days grew from 19th-century livestock swapping into one of the largest monthly outdoor markets in Texas.

The tradition in Canton dates back to the 1800s. It likely started around the time district court met monthly, when neighbors would gather to trade surplus livestock and goods. Over time, the swapping expanded to include antiques, crafts, animals, and just about everything else. The market grew to fill about 30 acres.

The event now takes place the weekend before the first Monday of each month. If you are visiting or moving to the area, it draws large crowds and affects local traffic. For current dates, vendor info, and access details, check the official First Monday Trade Days site or the Canton city website.
