You Need a Texas Fishing License to Fish Tarrant County Waters

Anyone fishing in Tarrant County lakes or rivers needs a Texas fishing license from Texas Parks and Wildlife (TPWD).

Fishing licenses are available online at tpwd.texas.gov, by phone, or at sporting goods stores. Texas residents between 17 and 64 years old must have a valid license. Children under 17 are exempt. Texas residents born before January 1, 1931 are also exempt. Residents who are 65 or older but born on or after January 1, 1931 must buy a discounted Senior Resident Fishing License.

Tarrant County has several public fishing spots. These include Benbrook Lake, Eagle Mountain Lake, and the forks of the Trinity River. Each body of water has its own rules on bag limits and legal species. Check the TPWD Outdoor Annual for current rules before you go. The annual is free online at tpwd.texas.gov. Breaking bag limit rules can result in a fine.
