Short-Term Rentals in Fort Worth Have Strict Rules

Fort Worth does not allow short-term rentals (like Airbnb) in residential zoning districts — they are only permitted in commercial and mixed-use zones.

The City of Fort Worth passed a short-term rental ordinance in 2023. STRs are allowed in commercial, industrial, and most mixed-use zoning districts, but not in residential zones. If you want to rent out a home in a standard neighborhood, it is not allowed under Fort Worth's rules.

Hosts in allowed zones must register with the city and may need a Certificate of Occupancy if the STR is not their primary home. Other Tarrant County cities may have their own rules — or none at all. Always check the city's zoning ordinance before listing a property.
