Garner State Park: Hill Country Swimming on the Frio

Garner State Park sits along 2.9 miles of the Frio River and draws large crowds in summer — reservations are essential.

Garner State Park covers 1,774 acres near Concan, just outside Leakey. The Frio River runs through the park for nearly 3 miles. Visitors swim, float, kayak, fish, hike 16 miles of trails, and camp. The park is open daily. Entry is $8 per person for ages 13 and up; children 12 and under get in free.

The park fills up fast on summer weekends and holidays from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Texas Parks and Wildlife strongly recommends reserving both camping and day-use passes in advance at tpwd.texas.gov or by calling 512-389-8900. If you show up without a reservation on a busy day, you may be turned away.
