Water & Wells

Real County Has Its Own Groundwater District

If you plan to drill a water well in Real County, you must deal with the Real-Edwards Conservation and Reclamation District, which regulates groundwater use in the area.

Most rural land in Real County has no city water line. People rely on private wells. The Real-Edwards Conservation and Reclamation District — often called RECRD — is the local groundwater district. It oversees well drilling in the area. It can require a permit before you drill. It also sets limits on how much water you can pump each year.

Before you buy rural land or start any building project, find out if you need a well permit. RECRD sets its own rules. Those rules decide how much water you can legally use. The Texas Water Development Board lists RECRD on its website and links to the district's water management plan. Contact RECRD directly to get current permit rules and fees.
