Water Wells
Robertson County Groundwater Is Managed by a Local District
If you drill a water well in Robertson County, the Brazos Valley Groundwater Conservation District sets the rules and may require a permit.
Robertson County falls inside the Brazos Valley Groundwater Conservation District (BVGCD). This local district covers both Brazos and Robertson counties. Its job is to manage how much groundwater gets pumped. It may require a permit before you drill a new well or a high-capacity well.
The main underground water source in this area is the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer. It includes a layer called the Simsboro Sand, which produces good freshwater in this region.
If you are buying rural land and plan to use a private well, call the BVGCD before you drill. Ask about permit rules and local limits. The Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) also keeps a database of well records and water levels. You can search it by location to learn more about wells near your land.
