Homestead Exemption
Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill
If your Robertson County home is your main residence, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces what you owe in property taxes.
Texas law gives homeowners a break on property taxes if the home is their primary residence. This is called a homestead exemption. All school districts must give at least a $140,000 exemption off your home's appraised value. Other taxing units — like the county itself — may offer additional local discounts.
To get this benefit, you file an application with the Robertson County Appraisal District. The general deadline is before May 1 of the tax year, but late filings may still be accepted. You only need to file once; the exemption stays as long as you own and live in the home. Check the Texas Comptroller's exemption page or call RCAD at 979-828-5800 for current deadlines and forms.
