Drilling a Water Well in Sterling County

Sterling County has its own groundwater district that requires new wells to be registered before you drill.

The Sterling County Underground Water Conservation District (UWCD) manages groundwater here. It covers the Edwards/Trinity (Plateau) Aquifer, which sits under much of the county. If you plan to drill a well, you must register it with the district under their rules.

Contact the UWCD at P.O. Box 873, Sterling City, TX 76951, phone 325-378-2704. The district also appears as a taxing entity on your property tax bill. For well-drilling rules and permit details, go to sterlinguwcd.org or call before you hire a driller.
