How Property Taxes Work in Sterling County

One office appraises your property and a separate office collects the tax bill in Sterling County.

The Sterling County Appraisal District (CAD) sets the value of your property each year. That value is the starting point for your tax bill. The CAD is at 812 4th St. in Sterling City. You can reach them at 325-378-7711 or sterlingcad.org.

A separate office collects what you owe. The Tax Assessor-Collector is at 609 4th St., also in Sterling City, at 325-378-3041. Four entities levy taxes on Sterling County property: the county, the City of Sterling City, the Sterling City ISD, and the Sterling County Underground Water Conservation District. Rates can change each year, so check the current totals with the tax office before you close on a property.
