Homestead Exemption
Save on Taxes With a Homestead Exemption
If your Sterling County home is your main residence, you can apply for a homestead exemption to lower your tax bill.
A homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your home. Less taxable value means a smaller tax bill. You qualify if you own the home and it is your main residence on January 1 of the tax year.
You file the application once with the Sterling County Appraisal District. Bring a copy of your Texas driver's license showing your home address. The general deadline is before May 1, but the CAD can tell you the current date. Download the form at sterlingcad.org or call 325-378-7711.
