The Guadalupe River Can Rise Fast — Know Your Flood Zone

Parts of Comal County along the Guadalupe River are in FEMA-designated flood zones where lenders require flood insurance.

The Guadalupe River runs through central Comal County. It can rise quickly after heavy rain, especially in the Hill Country upstream. FEMA maps show which properties sit in a Special Flood Hazard Area (SFHA). If your lender sees your home in an SFHA, they will require flood insurance.

Look up any address at the FEMA Flood Map Service Center before you buy. Flood maps can be updated — even if a home was never flooded before, it may now sit in a higher-risk zone after a map revision.
