The 1922 Courthouse in Memphis

The Hall County Courthouse in Memphis was built in 1922 and is designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark.

The Hall County Courthouse stands at 512 W. Main St. in Memphis. It was built in 1922, replacing two earlier courthouse buildings. Austin architects Page and Brother designed it in the Classical Revival style. The building is three stories with a raised basement. It has dark brick walls, cast stone columns, and decorative pediments. The Texas Historical Commission designated it a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 2008.

Hall County was organized in 1890 after the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway came through the area. Memphis won a county seat contest that year, beating out two other towns. The courthouse is a working government building and reflects the county's roots as a railroad and farming community on the southeastern edge of the Texas Panhandle.
