How to lower your Archer County property tax bill with a homestead exemption

If you live in your Archer County home, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that lowers your property tax bill.

If you own and live in your Archer County home on January 1, you can apply for a homestead exemption. The exemption takes a chunk off your home's value before taxes are figured. That means a lower tax bill.

The Archer County Appraisal District is the office that handles exemptions. It covers the whole county — including Archer City ISD, Holliday ISD, and Windthorst ISD, plus several cities. The appraisal district sets your home's value. Each school and city then sets its own tax rate separately.

To apply, you need a Texas driver's license or state ID with your home's address on it. If you missed an earlier deadline, you can still file up to two years after the delinquency date. Get the application at the Archer County Appraisal District website or call 940-574-2172.
