Hunting seasons and rules for Archer County

Archer County is in the North Zone for deer and turkey hunting. Hunters need to know the bag limits and antler rules before they go out.

Archer County uses North Zone rules for white-tailed deer. For the 2025–2026 season, the total bag limit across all seasons was 5 deer, with no more than 2 bucks. An antler rule applies: only one of those bucks may have an inside spread of 13 inches or more. Archery season runs in late September through October. General season runs from November into early January.

Wild turkey also follow North Zone rules. The fall bag limit is 4 birds of either sex. The spring bag limit is 4 gobblers or bearded hens. You must report every turkey you harvest. Quail season runs from November through February 28. The daily bag limit for quail is 15. You need an Upland Game Bird Endorsement to hunt quail.

Most hunting in Archer County is on private land. You need the landowner's permission or a lease. There are no Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) wildlife management areas listed inside Archer County, but you can search the TPWD Annual Public Hunting Permit program online to find any enrolled land nearby. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual before you go, since seasons and rules can change each year.
