Homestead Exemption
Homestead exemption can lower your property tax bill
If you live in the home you own in Fayette County, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces your taxable property value.
A homestead exemption is a tax break for your primary residence. You apply once with the Fayette County Appraisal District. The exemption lowers the value the tax rate is applied to, which reduces your bill.
To apply, you need a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing the property address. There are also additional exemptions for people 65 and older and for disabled homeowners. Forms and instructions are on the exemptions page at fayettecad.org. File as soon as you qualify — do not wait.
