Homestead Exemption
A homestead exemption can lower your school tax bill in Glasscock County
If you own and live in your home, you may qualify for a homestead exemption that reduces the taxable value of your property.
Texas law requires school districts to exempt a set dollar amount from a qualifying homestead's value before calculating school taxes. You must own the home and use it as your main residence. You file the application with the Glasscock County Appraisal District, not the tax office.
There is no cost to apply. The general filing deadline is before May 1, but check with the appraisal district for the current year's deadline since rules can change. Additional exemptions may be available for people who are 65 or older or who have a disability. The Texas Comptroller's exemption page explains each type in plain terms.
