Homestead Exemption
A homestead exemption can lower your tax bill in Hill County
If you own and live in your home in Hill County, you can apply for a homestead exemption that reduces the taxable value of your property.
A homestead exemption lowers the value your taxes are based on. For example, a $50,000 home with a $15,000 exemption is taxed as if it is worth $35,000. General, over-65, and disability exemptions are all available in Texas.
There is also a homestead cap: once you have the exemption, your appraised value cannot rise more than 10% per year, even if the market goes up faster. Apply at Hill CAD, at 1407 Abbott Ave in Hillsboro. Check with the appraisal district for current deadlines, as they can change.
