Homestead Exemption

How to apply for a homestead exemption in Fort Bend County

Homeowners who live in their home as their main residence can apply with FBCAD to lower the taxable value.

Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption off their home's appraised value. Additional exemptions may apply for people over 65 or with disabilities.

You apply through the Fort Bend Central Appraisal District (FBCAD), not the tax office. You need a completed Form 50-114 and a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID. The address on your ID must match the home you are claiming. State law requires an ID copy with all homestead exemption applications (Texas Tax Code §11.43).

Visit fbcad.org to apply online and confirm the current deadline. Texas law sets the general deadline as before May 1 of the tax year, but deadlines can change — always verify with FBCAD.
