Homestead Exemption
How to Apply for a Homestead Exemption in La Salle County
If this is your main home, a homestead exemption can cut how much of its value gets taxed.
Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on a residence homestead. That means $140,000 of your home's value is not counted when the school district calculates your tax bill. Other local taxing units — like the county or a city — may offer their own additional exemptions.
To get the exemption, you file a form with the La Salle County Appraisal District. The general filing deadline is April 30 of the tax year, but check with the appraisal district for current deadlines — they can change. You must own the home and live there as your primary residence. You can only claim it on one property. Contact the appraisal district at lasallecad.com or call 830-879-4756 to get the current form and confirm the deadline.
