Hunting Rules on State-Owned Riverbeds in La Salle County
Texas law bans firearm and archery hunting on state-owned riverbeds in La Salle County, with one exception.
State-owned riverbeds — the land under certain rivers — are public property in Texas. But in La Salle and McMullen counties, there is a specific ban. You cannot possess, shoot, or hunt with a firearm or archery equipment on those riverbeds.
The one exception is waterfowl hunting on a reservoir owned or operated by a government entity. If you are waterfowl hunting on such a reservoir, the ban does not apply. This rule covers the season from September 1, 2025 through August 31, 2026. Always check the current TPWD Outdoor Annual for updated regulations before you head out, because seasons and rules can change year to year.
