Claim a homestead exemption to lower your Jasper County property tax
Jasper County homeowners who live in their home as a primary residence can file for a homestead exemption that reduces how much of the home's value is taxed — but you must apply yourself.
Texas does not apply homestead exemptions automatically. You must file an application with the Jasper County Appraisal District (JCAD). The school district is required by state law to exempt $140,000 of your home's value. Additional exemptions exist for homeowners who are 65 or older, disabled, or disabled veterans.
Use Texas Comptroller Form 50-114 (Application for Residence Homestead Exemption). You can get this form at the Comptroller's website or directly from JCAD at 137 N. Main St., Jasper (phone: 409-384-2544). Once the exemption is granted, you do not need to renew it each year. If you move or your situation changes, notify JCAD. Check jaspercad.org for current filing deadlines, since the legislature can adjust them.
