Property Tax Exemption
Homestead Exemption Can Lower Your Tax Bill
If you own and live in your home in Kimble County, a homestead exemption reduces the taxable value of your property.
Texas law requires school districts to give homeowners a $140,000 exemption on their primary residence. That means $140,000 of your home's value is not taxed for school purposes. Other taxing units in Kimble County may offer their own exemptions on top of that.
There is also a 10 percent cap under Texas Tax Code Sec. 23.23: once you have a homestead exemption in place, your appraised value cannot go up more than 10 percent per year. You apply through the Kimble Central Appraisal District. Check their website for the current filing deadline — it is typically in the spring.
