TPWD Opened Free Public Fishing Access on the Llano River

Texas Parks and Wildlife leased four public access sites on the Llano River so anglers and paddlers can reach the water without private land permission.

The Llano River runs through Kimble County, but public bank access has historically been limited. TPWD opened four free sites through its River Access and Conservation Areas program. Pete's Pecan Patch, near Junction, has about 800 feet of bank fishing and a kayak launch set in a pecan orchard. The County Road 150 site on the South Llano has a canoe/kayak launch and a quarter-mile of bank access upstream of Junction. Castell Crossing on FM 2768 offers about 950 feet of bank fishing. A fourth site, HR Seventh Heaven near the city of Llano on County Road 103, also has a kayak launch and parking.

All four sites are free and open year-round. They have no staff, restrooms, or running water. Guadalupe bass — the official state fish of Texas — live in the South Llano and main Llano. In late winter, TPWD has stocked rainbow trout in the area. Check TPWD's website for current stocking schedules and any fishing regulations before you go.
