Homestead Exemption

File a homestead exemption to lower your property tax bill

If your home in Mills County is your main residence, a homestead exemption can reduce the taxable value of your property.

A homestead exemption lowers the amount of your property that gets taxed. To qualify, the home must be your main residence on January 1 of the tax year. You apply once with the Mills Central Appraisal District. You will need a copy of your Texas driver's license or state ID showing your address.

Once approved, the exemption stays in place — you do not refile each year. The appraisal district also has information on additional exemptions for seniors and people with disabilities. Deadlines and specific savings amounts can change, so check millscad.org or call 325-648-2253 for current details.
